A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…blah, blah, you know how it continues.  We all probably know at least one fan, and have bought or made a Star Wars-themed card present at some point.  Would I be able to find something to knit along those lines, I wondered?  Ha! Oh, ye of little faith.  Surely, by now I had realised that the knitting community has a pattern, a design or just an idea of absolutely ANYTHING I might want to represent in coloured yarn?

Of course, I was not disappointed.  My go-to website is always Jo’s Big Knit for patterns for little hats of all shapes and subjects, which I knit and use as egg cozies.  Where else would you find a knitting pattern for a graduation mortar board alongside a traffic cone, a letter box or a teapot? Nothing specifically Star Wars-related, as it turns out.

But a Yoda hat, a Chewbacca mask, a Princess Leia cup cozy, they’re all out there in the knitting community, to knit or buy or just for inspiration, and so with a tweak here and a cut there, a themed egg cozy set is on its way to the birthday boy/man…

In a galaxy far, far away…

…Yoda hello says

Thanks to Jo’s Big Knit for this UFO mini hat pattern.  Not exactly Star Wars but an excellent substitute.  Very effective use of single and two strands on occasion; not complicated and only adds to the interest.  I did it in one go and thoroughly enjoyed it, but it does take a while to sew in all those ends.

The Yoda egg cozy adapted from a pattern for a baby hat it was.  I used the basic pattern for a standard mini hat and played around on some smaller needles to make the ears.  When I attached the ears to the hat, this sewing stage proved useful to get that turned-down effect. Thanks to Shina for the inspiration from the free pattern Yoda Baby Hat from Fuzzy Cloud Designs

…to the lovely Princess Leia…

…and Chewbacca, raaarrr

Let’s hear it for the lovely Princess Leia and that hairstyle.  Again a standard mini hat pattern but using the colours beautifully displayed in a crocheted cup cozy. The coils of hair are made of i-cord, using two stitches on size 12 double-pointed needles and then sewn into place.  Great fun to make; thanks for the inspiration to Angie at The Enchanted Ladybug

Aah, lovely cuddly Chewbacca.  Well, perhaps not.  I couldn’t find any patterns that were quick and easy enough for my deadline so I went with a standard  mini hat again (thanks again, Jo) and used a latch hook tool to hook through strands of yarn to create this shaggy puppy look.  Ahh, just look at those eyes…

OK everyone, say cheese
